#Funding: Northern Ireland Screen launching two short film schemes
Northern Ireland Screen has launched two funding schemes to support the production of short films. The funding for both schemes is provided in partnership with the BFI Network.
Shorts to Features
A scheme which provides an opportunity for emerging creative teams to create a short film which is tonally and thematically aligned with their feature film ambitions.
Duration of Scheme
Development process from June 2018 to March 2019 and eventual production process for up to 3 selected projects after initial development period. There is the possibility of transport bursaries for participation on the development scheme if required.
£26,500 which includes an in-kind contribution of £6,500. The attached production company supplies the in-kind contribution.
Applicants must apply with the current draft of their feature film project and one-page outline for a proof of concept short which is tonally aligned to the feature film project.
Who can apply?
Emerging talent (writer, writer/director and producer teams) with at least three previous short film credits in chosen grade. Both funded and independently made projects will be considered at application stage.

New Shorts Focus
An initiative to find Northern Ireland resident filmmakers exclusively from groups that are underrepresented in the film and television sector. This includes Females 30+, Disabled applicants, Black and minority ethnic (BME) applicants and Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual and Transgender applicants.
Applicants to development stage
Scheme is open to entry level writers and writer/director applicants resident in Northern Ireland, particularly those from groups that are underrepresented within the film and television industry. If you want to direct your short, you must supply an online link to a film you previously directed. There is the possibility of transport bursaries for participation on the development scheme if required.
Number of projectsat development stage
6 projects will be chosen to go through a development process starting in June 2018 and finishing in March 2019. The application process will be followed by an interview process to select the 6 projects to go into development.
Duration of Scheme
Nine-month development process with up to 4 projects selected to move into production after the initial development period.
The final films should be deliverable on a budget of £11,500 including in-kind contribution of £1,500. The in-kind contribution is supplied by the attached production company.
Funding application process
A Production company will be attached to each of the selected projects. That company will make the funding application. A production company is attached once the final projects are selected. Northern Ireland Screen can assist with the attachment of a production company if required.
Applicants must apply with a one-page outline for their project and include their cv. Two outlines per applicant can be submitted.
Who can apply? Graduates from film studies qualifications, theatre practitioners, visual artists and cross-over talent from across diverse media sectors including photography and mixed media.
