Irish short Lift Off to screen at CERN’s Cineglobe Film Festival 2019 in Switzerland
CERN’s Cineglobe Film Festival was
established in 2007 to showcase films inspired by science. 2019 Cineglobe Film Festival
runs from 3rd – 7th July and includes short films,
feature films and special events.
As part of this year’s Short Film programme, Lift Off by Kilkenny filmmaker Kevin Hughes will screen outdoors in the shadow of CERN’s iconic Globe building from midday to 21:30 daily.
The aim of the event is to encourage
young people to reflect on the links between fiction and reality and between
science and life.
It is an honor and a privilege to have been selected to participate in CERN’s Cineglobe Film Festival 2019. Wow, CERN – Birthplace to the World-wide web ! Home to the Hadron Collider ! and now screening venue to our Kilkenny produced short film Lift Off. Well done to all the Cast and Crew involved.
Kevin Hughes, Filmmaker
Lift Off tells the story of an eleven year old girl Grace who is awoken from her space dream by her parents and their friends arguing about humanity’s future in the sitting room below.
It is timely that we received this fantastic news about Lift Off at the same time as Public State examinations are underway. Stressful times for all students involved but exciting times in looking to the future. Similarly, our storyline within Lift Off promotes embracing STEM ( Science Technology English and Maths ), dreaming Big and following one’s dreams. Ultimately don’t stop believing in oneself !

Cineglobe’s Award Ceremony takes place on Saturday 8th July, 2019 with the team behind Lift Off looking to the sky to take one home.
