Northern Ireland Screen has launched a number of short film schemes aimed at developing Northern Ireland resident creative talent. These include:
Northern Ireland Screen intends to use Lottery Funds provided through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and BFI NETWORK to support the production of Short Film. The aim of this funding is to:
- Encourage Northern Ireland resident producers to make a significant contribution to developing talent within the local industry.
- Develop Northern Ireland resident creative talent (writer, director, producer teams) who intend to work professionally in factual or fiction genres.
By offering structured, merit-based opportunities, Northern Ireland Screen intends to develop new and emerging writing, directing and producing talent to the point that it is of interest to the wider film, television and digital content industry.
Closing date for applications: Friday 12th April 2019.
A scheme which provides an opportunity for emerging creative teams to create a short film which is tonally and thematically aligned with their feature film ambitions.
Development process from June 2019 to March 2020 and eventual production process for 1 selected project after initial development period. There is the possibility of transport bursaries for participation on the development scheme if required.
Closing date for applications: 5pm Friday 5th July 2019.
An initiative to find Northern Ireland resident filmmakers exclusively from groups that are underrepresented in the film and television sector. This includes Females 30+, Disabled applicants, Black and minority ethnic (BME) applicants and Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual and Transgender applicants.
Scheme is open to entry level writers and writer/director applicants resident in Northern Ireland, particularly those from groups that are underrepresented within the film and television industry. If you want to direct your short, you must supply an online link to a film you previously directed. There is the possibility of transport bursaries for participation on the development scheme if required.
6 projects will be chosen to go through a development process starting in September 2018 and finishing in March 2020.
