Redmond Barry Films has announced that their short film Kubrick by Candlelight has been officially selected for Encounters Film Festival 2017 in Bristol in September.  Kubrick By Candlelight is a light hearted romantic comedy set behind the scenes of the filming in Ireland in 1973 of Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon.

Darragh O’Toole (South, Red Rock), Amy Hughes (Vikings), Phelim Drew (Angela’s Ashes, My Left Foot) join newcomers Mark Lawrence as Mark Thornton and Michael Thomas Nolan as Stanley Kubrick. Rounding out the cast is the internet sensation, impressionist and comedian Al Foran as Mick Molloy as well as Mark Webb (Colour Me Kubrick), Lisa Moore and Alan Curran. The film is narrated by acting legend Brian Cox (Manhunter, Churchill, Braveheart).

The film plays in the Comedy: Love Bites Screening at 10pm at the Watershed Cinema 1 on Thursday 21st September 2017. Encounters is the UK’s leading short film and animation festival. The five-day jam packed programme in September presents a diverse selection of short film screenings, feature films, guest film programmes, special guests, Q&As and gala events alongside an intensive industry event programme with high-level masterclasses and workshops.

At the heart of the festival lies the Encounters Festival International Competition – one of the world’s leading International Competitions for short film and animation, and also an official gateway to the world’s most prestigious awards; BAFTAsEuropean Film Awards and Cartoon d’Or and a qualifying festival for the Academy Awards®.

Each year the Encounters Festival Grand Prix winners qualify for consideration in the Short Films category of the Annual Academy Awards®.

I’m incredibly excited to have been selected by the prestigious Encounters Film Festival for KBC. It’s such a fantastic festival and I can’t wait to see all of the other films on offer including Ben Cleary’s Wave and Vincent Gallagher’s Second To None. It’s a testament to all the hard work of our producer Vinnie Jassal and all of our cast and crew that the film is amongst such high-quality short films and animations and I couldn’t be happier for people to finally see the film.
