Irish Abroad: Two Irish shorts to feature at DC Shorts Film Festival

News from the States, where two Irish shorts are set to feature at the DC Shorts Film Festival, which run September 10th to 20th in the American capital. The pair feature as part of a 125 film line-up.

Film one is The Weather Report, directed by Paul Murphy and produced by Deirdre de Grae. The film is an RTÉ/Galway Film Centre short, which won the Directors Choice award at this year’s Boston Irish Film Festival. A historical drama the film sees a lighthouse keeper asked to repeat his daily weather report for reasons that turn out to be significant.


Film two is Stutterer, directed by Benjamin Cleary and produced by Serena Armitage and Shan Christopher Ogilvie. The film had its premier at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh. Stutterer is the story of a man with a severe speech¬†impediment who must face his worst fear. It stars Matthew Needham (Casualty), Chloe Pirrie (Shell), and Eric Richard (The Bill).

Recently named the “Coolest Short Film Festival” by Moviemaker Magazine, the 12th DC Shorts Film Festival and Screenplay Competition is the largest short film event on the East Coast of the United States. In 2014, the festival screened 136 films from 25 countries in 18 unique showcases that played over 11 days to a total audience of 9,300 people.
